2020 GMC Canyon vs Nissan Frontier
When choosing your next pickup, you’ll have a lot of options available to you. If you’re looking for a smaller truck with big capabilities, then you may be choosing between the 2020 GMC Canyon and Nissan Frontier.
The team at Andy Mohr Buick GMC is here to show you how the Canyon and Frontier differ, so you can choose the right one for your Fishers, Indianapolis, and Noblesville, IN, worksites.
Canyon vs Frontier: Engine Specs
It’s important to choose a truck with a commanding engine to provide the muscle you need to get some serious work done.
In the 2020 GMC Canyon, you’ll have your choice between three daring engine options…
Engine |
Horsepower |
Torque (lb-ft) |
2.5-liter 4-cylinder |
200 |
191 |
2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel 4-cylinder |
181 |
369 |
3.6-liter V6 |
308 |
275 |
There are only two motor options in the Nissan Frontier, and they don’t quite measure up to those in the Canyon, maxing out at 261 horsepower. Therefore, you may notice a difference in the way these pickups perform.
Additionally, the Canyon is much more efficient, with an available diesel powertrain achieving an EPA-estimated 20 MPG city and 30 MPG highway. You’ll have to make more gas station stops during your work week in the Frontier, with an EPA-estimated 19 MPG city and 23 MPG highway.
Canyon vs Frontier: Towing Capabilities
More power in the engines of the 2020 GMC Canyon help it tow up to 7,700 pounds with ease. With towing power of this capacity, you’ll be able to bring your water ski boat to the lake for the afternoon or a lightweight camper trailer out for a weekend in the woods.
On the other hand, the smaller powertrains in the Nissan Frontier only allow this pickup to tow a maximum of 6,720 pounds. So, if you’re looking to haul a trailer, the Frontier may not be able to get the job done.
Canyon vs Frontier: Cargo Space
In addition to heftier towing capabilities, the 2020 GMC Canyon can also carry a payload up to 1,605 pounds, so you can load up your bulky building materials and head to your next worksite. You may have to leave some gear behind with the Frontier, since it can only handle a maximum payload of 1,460 pounds.
To make loading up even easier, the Canyon offers an EZ-Lift and Lower Tailgate. It makes raising and lowering your tailgate simpler, so you can get some work done around town. In the Nissan Frontier, you won’t be treated to this luxury.
