GMC Dashboard Warning Lights Guide
When you’re driving down the streets of Fishers, Indianapolis, or Noblesville, and you suddenly see a light on your dash appear, Andy Mohr Buick GMC has your back.
We’ve created a guide on the GMC dashboard warning lights, so you’ll know exactly what’s going on when you see one. We have also included information on what steps to take next, so you can always be driving a safe and sound vehicle. It’s helpful to know this stuff before scheduling an appointment!
Check Engine Light
This symbol looks like an outline of a car’s engine and is there to let you know something is happening under the hood of your vehicle. This could be a number of things, however it most likely is an issue within your engine or emissions system in your GMC. When you see this light illuminate or it begins to blink, schedule an appointment with your authorized dealer right away.
Charging System Light
If you see a light that looks like a battery on your dash, your electrical charging system could be malfunctioning. If this happens, pull off to the side of the road when it’s safe to do so and turn off your engine. Make sure all unnecessary electrical items are also turned off. Finally, reach out to a professional at an authorized service center.
Engine Coolant Temperature Light
If your engine is overheating, this light will appear on your dashboard. This light should not be ignored, as an engine that is too hot can cause serious damage to your vehicle or even start a fire under the hood. If this light appears while you’re driving, bring your car into the nearest service or stop driving and call them for assistance.
Oil Pressure Light
When your oil is too low, your vehicle will let you know by illuminating this dashboard symbol. Since low oil can cause engine damage and not work as effectively, either add more oil (after checking the levels) or schedule an appointment as soon as possible with your dealership’s service center.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System Light
This light will appear if your monitoring system detects that one or more of your tires is low. When this happens, inspect to see if each tire’s pressure is correct and add more air if needed. Be careful not to overinflate, as this could result in a blowout.
Brake System Light
Your brake system or ABS light will shine if there’s a possible issue within your braking system. This could mean low brake fluid, worn brake pads, or your system isn’t working properly. Get into a service center immediately, so they can assess and repair the problem.
