GMC Acadia Gas Mileage

GMC ACADIA

What is it about SUVs that makes them so practical? Is it because of their comfortable interiors and spacious cargo areas? For the GMC Acadia, you’ll find just that, along with some impressive fuel economy.

To show Fishers, Indianapolis, and Noblesville, Indiana, drivers what this vehicle is capable of, Andy Mohr Buick GMC has explored what makes the GMC Acadia such a fuel-efficient ride. Read more to learn all about the features of this car that will help you conserve your fuel.

GMC ACADIA: SLEEK AND CONFIDENT DESIGN

CONFIDENT DESIGN

When building a fuel-efficient vehicle, the best place to start is with the exterior design. Smooth edges and sweeping front ends help divert wind from the vehicle as it moves down the road. A good aerodynamic build for a vehicle not only enables it to drive faster but also reduces engine work and fuel consumption.

For the GMC Acadia, the body has been built to shrug off the wind with little difficulty while also providing a confident stance on the road. The flowing design ends at a rear spoiler that helps to separate wind from the vehicle, making sure you pass through the air easily.

IMPRESSIVE ENGINE PERFORMANCE

The GMC Acadia treats drivers to three available engine options, offering a great balance between speed and fuel economy. Standard on the SLE trim of the GMC Acadia is the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that generates 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. Behind the wheel of this powertrain, drivers will enjoy having an EPA-estimated 21 city/27 MPG.

Drivers who want to enjoy a bit more performance from their vehicle can opt for the available 3.6L V6 engine. This powertrain generates up to 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque while still giving us an EPA-estimated 19 city/27 highway MPG.

To further enhance your fuel consumption with the 3.6L V6 engine, it has been designed with an Active Fuel Management System. By using this technology, this SUV can shut off two of its cylinders to consume less fuel during light driving. That way, you can effectively save fuel while you’re in traffic.

For drivers who want an option that balances these two engines, the 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine will delight. This engine will afford you 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. While providing this power, it also performs the most efficiently out of these engine choices. If you have this engine under the hood, you’ll be able to earn up to an EPA-estimated 22 city/29 highway MPG, making it the perfect companion for the work commute.

SMART TRANSMISSION DESIGN

To provide smoother performance and smarter fuel consumption, the GMC Acadia has also been designed with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission. This transmission allows this SUV to enjoy easy acceleration that feels effortless while moving along the highway, seamlessly optimizing force distribution.

Best of all, due to its high number of speeds and its well-spaced-out gear ratios, you’ll enjoy the experience of less pressure placed on the engine.

STOP/START TECHOLOGY

STOP/START TECHOLOGY

No matter what engine or GMC Acadia trim level you land on, you will have Stop/Start technology working hard for you. This system is incorporated into your powertrain and works to preserve your fuel in certain situations.

When enacted, this system can detect when you have reached a complete stop. If you sustain this stop, this system will turn off your engine to preserve fuel. While your engine is off, the rest of your vehicle’s features will remain intact. Then, once you remove your foot from the brake pedal, your engine will turn back over automatically, and you’ll be able to seamlessly hit the road.

This feature comes in handy in heavily congested areas, like in a downtown setting, for instance. Due to the volume of stoplights, this system could stand to preserve a considerable amount of fuel and keep you away from those pesky gas pumps.

HAULING AND MPG

The Acadia wouldn’t be a true member of the SUV class without the ability to tow and haul. In its standard configuration, the Acadia can tow a maximum of 1,000 pounds. However, when outfitted with a larger engine option and the proper equipment, its towing capacity increases up to 4,000 pounds. Either way, you’ll be able to haul a small trailer behind your SUV.

The interior of the Acadia also offers plenty of storage space. Folding the second- and third-row seats down will afford you 79 cubic feet of cargo volume. Again, this will allow you to transport just about any item or gear you may need for an upcoming move or adventure.

While the Acadia is extremely capable of transporting larger items, it is important to remove your gear, bags, or whatever it may be from the cabin when no longer needed. Excess weight can prove detrimental to the fuel efficiency you can earn. Therefore, leaving heavy items within the Acadia’s cabin could lead to more fuel consumption.

MAXIMIZE FUEL ECONOMY

MAXIMIZE FUEL ECONOMY

In addition to removing excess weight from your SUV, there are several additional ways to ensure you are maximizing your fuel economy. For example, using cruise control can create a smooth driving experience at a consistent rate that preserves more fuel. Fortunately, the Acadia offers an available Adaptive Cruise Control system to satisfy this need.

Another way to preserve fuel is to minimize cold operation. This not always feasible, of course. When winter rolls around, you will need to drive in the cold. However, you could let your Acadia warm up a bit before hitting the road. This could help you earn a few extra miles per gallon on your early morning commute.

Some additional ways to maximize fuel economy include:

  • Avoiding rush hour
  • Planning trips
  • Shifting gears efficiently
