GMC Acadia Towing
The 2021 GMC Acadia has a towing capacity of up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped. This allows you to safely tow a trailer full of cargo or bring a boat or camper with you on your next vacation.
To help make carrying your camper or boat a breeze, this SUV can be equipped with available Trailer/Tow mode through the Traction Select System. This feature raises your transmission’s upshift points, so you can utilize more power when you’re towing.
The suspension and versatile transmission are only the beginning of the design features that make this SUV capable of hauling cargo. The available Trailering Package not only helps raise your maximum towing load to 4,000 pounds but also gives you some useful hardware. These include a 7-pin wiring harness and a Class III trailer hitch. Additional features are:
- Heavy-duty cooling system
- 170-amp alternator
- Hitch Guidance
Engine Specs
The GMC Acadia offers three engines. The base powertrain is a 2.5L I-4 with Variable Valve Timing (VVT). This design helps it boost its production with up to 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. The second option is a 3.6L V6 engine with VVT that’s capable of producing up to 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque.
If you’re looking for the perfect blend of power and efficiency, then you’ll love the available 2.0-liter Turbo 4-cylinder powertrain. This engine not only generates 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque but also has an EPA-estimated 22 city and 29 highway MPG.
All three engines work with a 9-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive is standard, an Advanced Twin-Clutch All-Wheel Drive (AWD) System is available. This drivetrain transfers torque to the wheels that need extra power and traction.
You can adjust the drivetrain to help your SUV while it’s towing or driving through tough conditions. The Traction Select Drive Mode Selector lets you quickly switch between the following modes:
- Trailer/Tow
- Sport
- Snow
- From 2WD to AWD
Safe Towing Features
The 2021 GMC Acadia also offers technology to help you keep your cargo under control. After all, adding 4,000 pounds to your SUV can make the drive feel a little different. Fortunately, this stylish SUV is ready to keep your cargo safe and under control.
You want to take on hills with confidence. Available Hill Start Assist eliminates rollback when you’re on your way up. Meanwhile, optional Hill Descent Control lets you maintain a safe speed on the way down.
There are even features to help you line up and connect with your trailer before you hit the road. When you shift into reverse, your dashboard monitor will show you what’s behind you and help you steer into place with the standard HD Rear Vision Camera.
