Interior Space of the 2021 Sierra Double Cab vs Crew Cab

If you’re trying to choose the best cabin for your specific needs, the first question you may be asking yourself is how much space it has to offer. Every iteration of the Double Cab offers seating for six to make more space for your workers. The Crew Cab is also available with seating for six, but it can be equipped to carry five passengers if you prefer fewer seats.

Despite this difference in seating, you’ll notice the dimensions of these cabins are identical which each one offering the following measurements:

  • Front Headroom: 43.03 inches
  • Front Legroom: 44.53 inches
  • Front Shoulder Room: 66.02 inches
  • Front Hip Room: 61.18 inches

As you can see, no matter which cab appeals to you, you’ll have ample space for you to stretch out in the front row.

Where the differences come into play, though, is the back row. With the Crew Cab, you’ll have over 40 inches of headroom along with over 43 inches of legroom. However, the Double Cab doesn’t quite reach 40 inches of rear headroom and only provides just over 35 inches of rear legroom. If you’re looking for more space for your construction site buddies, then you may want to opt for the more spacious Crew Cab.

What Box Comes with Each Cabin?

After you’ve figured out the internal space you’re looking for in your next truck, it’s time to decide on the external cargo room. Pickups are known for being able to haul some serious cargo and the 2021 GMC Sierra is no different with three bed options for you to choose from:

Model

Short Box Length

Standard Box Length

Long Box Length

Sierra 1500

69.92 inches

79.44 inches

98.20 inches

Sierra HD

N/A

82.20 inches

98.27 inches

As you can see, there’s something for every driver to enjoy. If you’re looking to transport a few smaller tools and items, then the Short Box is a great option. But if you need extra length for drywall and sheet metal, then the Long Box is the best match for you.

On the Sierra 1500, you can combine the Crew Cab with either the Short Box or the Standard Box when you opt for 4-wheel drive (4WD). If instead you’re interested in the Double Cab, your only option will be the Standard Box. The Long Box is only available on this model if you choose the Regular Cab.

Since a Short Box option isn’t available with the Sierra HD, your options vary slightly. The Crew Cab can be paired with either the Standard Box or Long Box if you’re looking for extra cargo space. The Double Cab can also be matched to either of the bed options to ensure you’re getting the room your treks call for. You can also combine the Regular Cab with the Long Box.

Crew Cab vs Double Cab: Towing Capabilities

In addition to carrying cargo in your truck bed, you’ll want to tow with your pickup. The 2021 GMC Sierra is known for some impressive carrying abilities, and the maximum capabilities vary depending on the cabin option you select.
