Yukon vs Tahoe vs Expedition: Exterior Features

2021 GMC Yukon PerformanceBegin your 2021 GMC Yukon vs. Chevy Tahoe vs. Ford Expedition comparison by looking at what they have to offer in terms of exterior style. Subtle design cues can help set you apart from the make and allow you to announce your arrival on the open road or stay comfortable when venturing off the beaten path.

When it comes to the exterior features of the Yukon, Tahoe, and Expedition, they may appear to be at a standstill at first glance with strong grilles and minimalistic, clean designs. These three SUVs also share many similar features, including optional 22-inch wheels for maximum traction and increased ride height.

Additionally, the GMC and Ford have two different body styles (short and long wheelbase), while the Chevrolet offers just one (short wheelbase). The Yukon XL is the longest by a hair, at 225.2 inches in length, just slipping past the Expedition MAX at only 221.9 inches long.

Yukon vs Tahoe vs Expedition: Interior Space

The Yukon XL boasts 41.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats to fit plenty of luggage or camping gear. However, it may be a tight fit in the competition since the Expedition MAX clocks in at 34.3 cubic feet. Meanwhile, the Tahoe brings up the rear with 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row.

These vehicles also have configurable interiors that allow you to customize seating arrangements to meet your cargo needs for road trips. When both rear rows are folded flat, you’ll be treated to 121.5 cubic feet of room in the Expedition MAX and 122.9 cubic feet in the Tahoe. In the Yukon XL, you’ll have 144.7 cubic feet, significantly more than the Tahoe and Expedition.

The Yukon packs plenty of room for passengers as well. All three SUVs can seat eight, but the Yukon lets everyone stretch out. For example, it offers 36.7 inches of legroom to passengers in the third row. The Ford comes in at 36.1 inches, while the Tahoe falls short with only 34.9 inches. Even riders in the back can find a comfortable position in the Yukon.

Yukon vs Tahoe vs Expedition: SUV Performance Specs

When choosing your next ride, it all comes down to how it performs. A more powerful engine can lead to a greater towing capacity or more spirited performance as you journey to your next getaway.

The 2021 GMC Yukon and 2021 Chevy Tahoe offer the following three engines, so you can select the one that’s best suited to your specific needs:

Engine Option

Horsepower

Torque (lb-ft)

5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8

355

383

6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8

420

460

3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel

277

460

Despite these similar engines, the diesel motor in the Yukon can haul up to 8,400 pounds with ease, while the Tahoe falls short at only 8,200 pounds. If you’re looking for added power to pull a large boat or camper, the Yukon has the extra pep to get the job done.

Meanwhile, the 2021 Ford Expedition only has one powertrain, so you won’t have any options to find the blend of power best suited to your needs. Plus, while its 3.5-liter V6 engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, it still comes up short with only 375 horsepower. You may notice a difference in the way these SUVs perform.
