Steps to Selling Your Car to a Dealership

Step 1: Find Out Your Vehicle’s Worth

As soon as you get the idea that you want to sell your car to our dealership, your first step should be to conduct some research about your current model. Doing so will give you a good idea of what your vehicle is worth on the market—this way, you’re not surprised by your car’s trade-in value after the appraisal.

There are a couple ways you can calculate your vehicle’s worth, which include:

• Value Your Trade tool—Our valuation tool lets you input some vehicle information to give you a ballpark estimate of your vehicle’s value.
• Local Listings and Used Markets—You can check our used inventory to see if your model is currently being sold at our dealership. By using this research tool, you can see just how much your car is currently going for on the market.

Step 2: Arrange an Appraisal

When you’re planning on selling or trading in your vehicle to us, you will need to have your model appraised. To give you some time to secure a new mode of transportation or to begin a lease, you should schedule the appraisal a couple months in advance!

What Does the Appraiser Look For?

In general, our appraiser will be looking at our vehicle’s overall condition and operation. They will first do a walk-around to check the tires, exterior, and windows. From there, they’ll pop open the hood and look at your vehicle’s engine. Afterwards, they’ll inspect the cabin and all technology.

It is most likely that our appraiser will also take your vehicle for a spin to test out its handling and performance as well.

Step 3: Spruce Up Your Ride

Now that you have your appraisal appointment scheduled, you should tidy up your vehicle to make it look like you just drove it off the lot. There are three areas you should pay attention to most:

• Cleaning the exterior and having any cosmetic damages repaired
• Tidying up the interior and removing all personal belongings
• Taking it in for maintenance at our service center

Step 4: Appraisal and Offers

On appraisal day, you’ll bring your vehicle in for assessment. Afterwards, one of our representatives will then deliver your trade-in value. With the research you conducted before the big day, you can negotiate the buyback price if you so choose.

When it’s time to ink the offer, you can examine the drafted paperwork to make sure everything looks correct.

Step 5: Turn Over Your Vehicle

If you bought or leased a new Buick or GMC vehicle yet, you may have to schedule a vehicle drop-off down the line. You can correlate this drop-off time to when your new vehicle is ready for you at our dealership.

You may have to sign additional paperwork at this time. After that, you can easily hand over the keys, then hit the road in your new ride.
