GMC Terrain vs Ford Edge

GMC Terrain vs Ford Edge

With SUVs like the GMC Terrain and Ford Edge continuing to develop each year, picking your preferred option takes insight and research. Both vehicles can provide a reliable companion for traveling around Fishers, Indianapolis, and Noblesville, IN, but which one has the features and specifications that matter most to you?

As you move through this 2020 GMC Terrain vs. Ford Edge comparison, you’ll see where each SUV stands in relation to the other. If you want, our Andy Mohr Buick GMC dealership can also answer questions you may have or arrange a test drive when you’re available!

PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS: FUEL ECONOMY

It’s common to see models like the GMC Terrain with an out-of-state license plate. Why is that? Well, the fuel economy of the SUV, coupled with its interior space, makes it an ideal road tripper. The Ford Edge, on the other hand, is noticeably less efficient.

GMC Terrain Interior Technology

The Edge peaks at an EPA-estimated 21 city/29 highway MPG when you choose front-wheel drive and the turbocharged 4-cylinder motor. Fuel economy measurements for the GMC Terrain are far more efficient with the standard motor, while being about the same with the available 2.0L engine.

The standard 1.5L turbocharged engine in the Terrain receives an EPA-estimated 26 city/30 highway MPG. If you choose the 2.0L engine, instead, you’re still going to receive an EPA-estimated 22 city/28 highway MPG.

SUSPENSION AND PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING TECHNOLOGY

For the many different challenges that you’ll face on a daily basis, models like the GMC Terrain and Ford Edge come packed with adaptive technology.

For example, the GMC Terrain offers a premium suspension, which introduces another valve internal to the struts and shocks. Along with helping the SUV move more quietly along coarse roads, the overall feel behind the wheel is softer than that of the Ford Edge.

Other technologies of note in the GMC Terrain include choosing between various drive modes, such as Normal, Snow, and Tow/Haul.

The overall experience of the Ford Edge is less refined, without the same diversity of available driving modes to cater to your current needs.

DRIVER-ASSISTANCE SAFETY TECHNOLOGYGMC Terrain Stylish Exterior

Whether automatically braking because a collision seems likely or having help fitting your SUV into a tight parking space, the 2020 GMC Terrain and Ford Edge each utilize innovative driver-assistance technologies.

Forward Collison Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and intelligent headlamps that adjust to the darkness of the road are just a few examples of these safety features.

A trait you’ll only find in the GMC Terrain’s safety suite, however, is the Following Distance Indicator. With this setup in place, your SUV actually tells you what your following gap time is, or how much time you have to react to the vehicle in front of you while on the highway. Monitoring the system as you drive will help you keep a safe distance behind other vehicles.
